Be the Voice of our Children

Do you have children between the ages of 13 to 18? Join our discussions on the 25^th of September, 13.30-15.00 in Nicosia

You are invited to join one of our Group Discussions titled: "Necessary Conversations for our children»

The discussions will focus on our children's relationships, sexuality education and sexual abuse. The group discussion in English is targeted to parents or guardians with children aged between 13 -18 and will take place on the 25^th of September at 13.30-15.00 at Studio Plus TV in Nicosia.

Join us and share your thoughts, concerns and needs. Together, we can develop new policies and actions for the protection of our children. 

In total, 6 different group discussions with parents/guardians are organized, with children of ages 3-6, 7-12, 13-18 (2 group discussions for each category). 5 group discussions in Greek and 1 in English.

‘’Foni’’ Council is responsible for coordinating actions to prevent and combat sexual abuse and exploitation of children and child pornography. Children’s sexual abuse and exploitation needs to be tackled. During 2021, 278 complaints were reported concerning sexual offenses against minors in Cyprus, while 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys in Cyprus are expected to be victims of some type of sexual abuse or exploitation before they reach adulthood. In 70% to 80% of incidents, the perpetrator is someone that the victim knows and trusts, while at the same time grooming and online abuse seem to be increasing rapidly.

In the group discussion we will shed light on the following questions:

• What do you as a parent feel that you need so as to protect your child from abuse?
• Are you a cool and calm parent?
• Do you listen to, and openly discuss with your children their concerns?
• Can you tell if your child or another child is being abused?
• Do your children feel comfortable telling you about how they feel?

The group discussions will be coordinated by specialists under the supervision of members of the Council Foni and will be recorded. Parts of the discussions will be promoted in the media and NGOs by the Foni Association as part of a communication campaign.
